Indian Mound Minutes Aug 16, 2010

August 20th, 2010

President Scott Wagner called the meeting to order at 6:35pm.
The first order of business was a crime report from Officer Walker, regular crime stats were up slightly overall from the previous month. Auto thefts continue to be the major issue with 82 in July compared to 66 in June. The body found at Indian Mound is a crime that is still under investigation.

The Officer also talked about the sting involving spray paint sales to minors… underage operatives tried to buy spray paint at several Northeast businesses. Out of 15 businesses 11 sold to the operatives. Those that sold the paint were given warnings this time. Next time it will be tickets. The situation at 129 N. Van Brunt that was the major topic of last month’s meeting has been calm since.

The new fence at CVS Pharmacy next to the railroad tracks has cut down on the vagrant population at that site.

Scott Wagner introduced Kent Dicus from Pendleton Heights who talked about that neighborhoods Holiday Homes Tour which will be Sat., November 20th, this year and asked for volunteers to help docent the homes. There will be six houses and Scuola Vita Nuova. Visit Pendleton’s website at http://www.pendletonheights.org/ for details. This Saturday, August 21st, is their neighborhood garage sale.
There was a discussion about having one or more police porch roll calls at locations in IM it was suggested that maybe Holy Cross School might be a good place for one or Denver Manor.

Popsicle Parade, sponsored by NorthEastminster Church will be in Budd Park Wednesday, August 25th at 7pm. Kids can decorate their bikes or trikes.. there will be judging.

Still waiting on word about Neighborhood Self-Help Grants. Scott may break out the water blaster to go to work on graffiti on his own but would like the grant to help with supplies.

Christmas in October is behind on inspections but promises that everything will be ready.

Nothing new in BZA/Codes. 338 North Van Brunt has a case opened on it by the city for violation of single family zoning and will be watched.

Scott mentioned the Mayor’s Town Hall Meeting which was held last night (8/18).

Budd Park Meetings should start up again David is going to check with Kevan Evans to see if 6pm prior to the regular Indian Mound Meetings would work and report back in September. David will also ask about trimming the shrubbery next to the walkway along Gladstone Boulevard between Indian Mound and Cliff Drive and see if the bench at the Gladstone overlook just before Sunrise Drive can be painted.

New work is going on at the Colonnade. With surface repair and the replacement of the concrete floor in each gazebo with flagstone. Also plans are underway to clear foliage on the north side down to Cliff Drive and to uncover/build steps down to the Drive.

Next IM meeting is Monday, September 20th.

Respectfully submitted by David Remley.

Agenda for Indian Mound Meeting

July 16th, 2010

Dear Neighbors,

Please find below the agenda for Monday’s Indian Mound Meeting. We will have as our special guest, Major Ell from East Patrol. In the last few days we’ve had a serious problem come up along N. Van Brunt Blvd. In this case we have a problem child involved in drugs that is bringing “drive by” activity to the home, affecting the surrounding houses. This problem is very much like one we are experiencing on South Cypress. In addition to Major Ell attending our meeting, I’m going to see if we can get one of our City Prosecutors there also to see what we can do on N. Van Brunt and I hope it will be something we can apply to the Cypress problem as well and for any other section of the neighborhood that may have a similar issue.

Let me stress that we will be focusing on solutions, not on complaining. I think everyone knows my feeling on orderly meetings and despite the frustrations this particlar problem causes, I will insist that we keep on task and use our energies toward solving our problems.

This also serves as our Annual Meeting which means that we will be renewing memberships ($5 regular membership or $2.50 for those over 55) and voting for officers for the 2010 – 2011 year. We do have a slate of officers that will be brought forward for nomination including: President, Scott Wagner; Secretary, David Remley; and Treasurer, Tracy Gardner. Further nominations will be taken from the floor so if you or someone you know is interested in serving in this capacity they can be nominated. If there are those interested you can notify me before Monday and I will include them in the list for presentation at the meeting.

I look forward to seeing you Monday.

Scott

INDIAN MOUND NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MINUTES

June 27th, 2010

JUNE 21, 2010

President Scott Wagner called the meeting to order at 6:33 pm.

Police officer Steve Walker handed out crime stats for IM and we learned that our area only had minor increases in robbery and auto theft. He told us we were losing officer Matt Masters who is going to work at a totally different line of work.

One of our members reported that unwanted traffic is ramped up again at Denver Manor.

Our guest speaker was State Rep. John Burnett. John has been our Representative for the max number of terms and will be moving on to another phase of his life in addition to being an attorney at law. We told John how very much we have appreciated his representation and his newsletters keeping us informed of Jeff City workings.

John felt that this past session could best be summed up as “missed opportunities.” Too much time was spent on economic problems and in the end they didn’t succeed in fixing that problem. A Budget was passed but depends on dollars coming in. However, no one knows how much that will be and this lead to Governor Nixon cutting $300M, a lot of which was from Education. There were other things that would have increased income and decreased out flow. They could have spent more time looking at tax credits. There are 30-40 of them that give away hundreds of millions of dollars. Some are good and some are not. For instance, a tax credit to yacht owners.

Another issue on the horizon – Streamline Tax Collection. The collecting of sales tax for Internet sales, which most states are starting to do.

Bills passed this session:

Ethics Bill – It was not a true Ethics Bill – it had only about 10% of what should have been in it.

Autism Bill – which gives patients up to $40,000 a year for treatment.

DWI Bill – Simply putting drunk drivers in jail for longer terms does not make them safer. This bill will focus on treatment and being harder on those with higher breathalyzer results so that an individual who has two beers will not be punished the same as one whose totally drunk and a threat to lives of others.

Banned K2 – a chemically sprayed herb that people were using to get high.
A Bill to downsize government – then they proceeded to create a new government agency to study how to downsize government!!!!!!

New Veterans Bill – to make it easier for veterans overseas to vote.

Prompt Tax Refunds – tax refunds have to be made within ninety days instead of the current 120 days.

Back to School Safety Bill – dealt a lot with cyber bullying.

Prompt Payment to Health Care Providers
Special Legislative Session – Monday, June 28th, for the purpose of voting on giving Ford Motor Company a huge amount of money AND reducing pension benefits of State Employees.

Next meeting will be Monday, July 19, 6:30pm at Northeast Library. This is our Annual Meeting where new officers will be elected and memberships renewed

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you all goodbye as I step down as Secretary. My husband and I are freeing up our schedules and have been ending all our volunteer work for the present. It has been my pleasure to serve you and the Association. I will pop in to meetings now and then and keep up with IM news from new Secretary’s minutes. Good life and health to you all!! Pat

Indian Mound agenda for June 21

June 17th, 2010

Below is this month’s agenda. It is very important to make this meeting as we will need to discuss what projects to present to PIAC. This year there is an opportunity to fast track projects, but we will need to come to some consensus as to which to propose.
